Looking for the perfect week long activity for your child this summer? Taro’s offers a four day intensive program for young beginner and intermediate folders. Here your child can meet other origami lovers who will learn new skills, tricks, and origami models along with you. Their skills will culminate at the end of the week with a big project! With our summer sessions, your child can learn a talent they can enjoy for a lifetime.

The recommend ages for participants is 6-13 years old.

Each camp session will run from 1:00-3:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday.

Day 1 – Tuesday

  • History of Origami:
    • How it’s gone from religious uses in the early 1400s to helping find the best way to pack modern-day airbags and satellites. Students will learn to fold some ancient origami models while learning about their place in history.
  • Patience and Diligence
  • Learning the importance of taking your time.
  • To focus on accuracy and respect for the paper.

Day 2 – Wednesday

  • Learning the names of folds and bases.
  • Relationships between folds.
  • Deciphering Diagrams.
  • Learn to read the symbols.
  • Starting from a few simple models and then decide on a complicated model to build toward for the rest of the week.
  • Creating models to decorate and take home

Day 3 – Thursday

  • Review some of the models we’ve already created.
  • How we can improve on folding skills.
  • Learn about modular origami models to enforce practice and patience.
  • Learning the values of:
    • Precision
    • Confidence

Day 4 – Friday

  • Final Project:
    • Folding a complex or giant model!
  • Teambuilding:
    • Students will be encouraged to help each other with their final project.
  • Wrap up:
    • Taking what we’ve learned.
    • New ability of reading origami books.
