What is Tom?

TOM is not a person, but Taro’s Origami Meetup. Taro’s Origami Studio is happy to announce that we are partnering with the venerable OMG (Origami Meetup Group) to host a weekly Wednesday meetup at our Park Slope location.

What is a Meetup?

Meetups are a place where people who share a similar interest can come together to hang out and share ideas.

What is OMG?

For nearly a decade, Origami Meetup Group has been the place for folders in the NYC area to hang out and work together.

How will TOM work?

Taro’s Origami Meetup will be held every Wednesday in our studio space from 6-9pm, and open to folders of all levels and ages. TOM will be a space where folders can come together in Brooklyn and hang out, work on their personal origami projects, and exchange ideas and models.

The benefits of TOM:
  • Just like other OMG meetups, TOM will offer free kami to participants. Taro’s Origami Studio retail stock of books and paper will also be available for purchase.
  • Folders will have access to the space’s library collection of over 100 origami books to use during meetups.
  • The space has access to a variety of cutting and scoring tools for participants to use. However, the use of some tools may require the participant to sign a liability waiver.
Guidelines:
  • Taro’s Origami Studio retail products cannot be used during meetups unless purchased. However, some of our retail collection is a part of our library collection.
  • Child participants under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must stay with them for the duration of their time at the meetup.
  • Be respectful of the space. Any mess made during participants time during TOM should be cleaned up before they leave. Any library books used during TOM should be put back where they were found when participants are finished using them.
  • Food and drink are permitted, but in adherence to the above guideline, participants should take care to not make a mess.
  • Do not be greedy with the free kami! It is there for everyone.
  • TOM is a safe space for all folders. Any vocal discriminatory or prejudiced views about race, gender, or politics will not be tolerated.
  • Taro’s Origami Studio, like other OMG locations, is private property. If the host believes that you are violating these guidelines, you may be asked to leave.
