Origami Installation and Workshop at The Prince Park Tower Tokyo

– Cultural Experience for a Major U.S. Insurance Company’s Incentive Trip –

In early April 2025, Taro’s Origami Studio was entrusted with the planning, production, and operation of an origami installation and hands-on workshop for a staff incentive event hosted by a major U.S. insurance company at The Prince Park Tower Tokyo.

This special program welcomed top-performing employees and their families from across the United States to Japan for a celebration of their achievements and a cultural exchange. Seizing this opportunity, the Taro’s Origami team created an immersive origami experience to convey the beauty and spirit of Japanese culture.

Overview of the Installation

For this project, they designed a large-scale origami installation that spanned two spaces within the hotel. Hundreds of paper cranes were suspended from the ceiling, guiding guests’ eyes upward and creating a magical floating effect. A 16-meter-long ribbon-like origami structure added rhythm and depth to the space, creating a poetic flow throughout the venue.

Additionally, we set up a hands-on booth with 15 tablet devices running original origami animation applications. This digital-meets-handcraft approach was especially well-received by international guests, making the origami experience accessible and enjoyable even for first-timers.

100 hand-folded and individually wrapped origami ducks were also created and distributed as charming souvenirs. These became popular photo props and memorable takeaways for the guests.

Behind the Scenes

This project was a collaboration between the Taro’s teams in Brooklyn, New York and Asakusa, Tokyo. Despite time zone differences and cultural nuances, the teams leveraged their strengths and completed the tight preparation schedule seamlessly.

The total production time exceeded 100 hours, and over 200 origami pieces were hand-folded. We used large-format paper (1.3m and 60cm) in white, silver, and light blue to craft the installation. A specialized setup team completed the installation over the course of five hours, ensuring the elements harmonized with the entire venue space.

They also created an open origami experience corner with over 20 vibrant paper colors, enhancing the cultural experience with freedom and creativity.

On the Day & Guest Reactions

From the 6:00 PM opening to the end of the ninja performance at 9:00 PM, many guests enthusiastically took part in the origami activities. Some international attendees even cheered as they held up their finished creations—an inspiring moment that demonstrated how traditional Japanese culture transcends borders and language.

Floating cranes, large glowing sculptures, and focused guests quietly folding paper at their tables—all these elements combined to transform the space into a deeply immersive cultural environment, showcasing the multifaceted beauty of origami.

Looking Ahead

This installation reaffirmed the power of origami as more than decoration—it is a medium that creates meaningful cultural experiences and connects people. Taro’s Origami Studio will continue to propose innovative ways to integrate origami into corporate events and international gatherings.

It is the Taro’s Origami mission to sharing the tranquility and creativity of folding with people around the world.
