Taro’s Origami Studio, the first origami studio in United States, it thrilled to annouce the re-opening of its flagship store in the Japan Village neighborhood of Industry City Brooklyn. The studio, located on the second floor of the industrial complex for food, shops, and art, will provide the greater New York City Area with origami items and services, including authentic Japanese paper, hard-to-find origami diagram books, a dedicated space for birthday parties, a rotating display of amazing origami models, and lessons on the ancient art of paper folding for people of all ages. “Our mission has always been to create an environment where freedom of expression is encouraged through origami folding. After closing our store during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are excited to return to Brooklyn. I have designed this new space as an origami museum that will showcase a variety of origami models. We want to develop this place into a new art destination in Brooklyn.” said Taro Yaguchi, the studio’s owner who got hooked on origami design nearly two decades ago, after moving to the United States from Tokyo.

During the pandemic the studio dedicated itself to creating their own line of origami paper direct from Japan. They have since grown into one of the largest sources for quality origami paper in the U.S., providing standard Kami, Washi, and Tant paper in sizes large enough to create the most complex origami models.

With the ever-growing popularity of origami, this studio will continue to serve and nurture origami folders from miles around. Folding origami has been shown to improve behavioral skills, cooperative learning, cognitive development, mathematical understanding, and multicultural awareness. By folding origami steps one at a time with focus and care, one can enjoy the beauty of process itself while your creativity is expressed from a sheet of paper to something completely new. Taro’s Origami Studio offers drop-in folding, classes, private & group lessons, party rentals and field trips for all levels of children and adults.
