Taro’s Origami Helps Bring Doves to Buckhead
When the bride and groom began planning their Atlanta wedding, they drew inspiration from The Doves of Peachtree Road, Taro’s Origami Studio’s large-scale origami installation at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. More than 1,000 hand-folded origami doves filled the sanctuary at PRUMC, but the installation, which was created for the church’s centennial celebration, only remained on display through November 2025.

So for their 2026 wedding the bride and groom decided to bring that same feeling to their own wedding—but in a way that was appropriate for a smaller, more intimate venue. Enter the Belvedere Room at the Capitol City Club in Buckhead GA.

The newly expanded Belvedere features 23-foot ceilings, decorative steel trusses, an oversized stone fireplace, and large doors opening onto outdoor patios, creating an impressive but flexible setting for weddings and receptions. It was perfect for their August 2026 wedding.

A Smaller Flock, With a Big Impact
Rather than attempting to reproduce the enormous Peachtree Road installation, the Bride and Groom commissioned a more intimate flock of origami doves specifically for their wedding.
The Taro’s Origami Studio staff folded and prepared the doves in the studio, then carefully packaged and mailed them to Atlanta. Once they arrived, the team at Bittersweet Botanicals handled the installation, suspending the individual birds throughout the Belvedere and creating the feeling of a flock taking flight above the wedding celebration.
The result was a beautiful example of how origami can transform an event space without requiring a massive custom installation.

An Accessible Form of Flair
One of the most exciting aspects of this project was its scalability.
Large-scale origami installations don’t necessarily require a large-scale production budget. The Peachtree Road project involved more than 1,000 individually folded doves, custom rigging, extensive engineering, and an on-site installation process designed specifically for a huge sanctuary. All together, that project required more than two years of planning and development. But for this wedding, the same visual concept was adapted to the size and budget of the event.

By having the Taro’s team complete the folding and preparation before shipping the doves to the venue, much of the labor was completed hundreds of miles away, while the local event team then handled the final installation.
That makes a suspended origami installation a particularly cost-effective decorating option for smaller venues. Instead of filling an entire room with expensive floral arrangements or elaborate overhead décor, a relatively modest number of handmade paper birds can make use of otherwise empty vertical space and create a dramatic focal point.
The Belvedere’s soaring 23-foot ceiling was an ideal setting for the project.

From a Church Installation to a Wedding Celebration
The project also demonstrates one of the things Taro’s Origami Studio enjoys most about origami: the ability to take an idea developed for one environment and reinterpret it for an entirely different one.
The Doves of Peachtree Road was created as a monumental work of art and a symbol of peace, hope, and possibility.
For the bride and groom, the flock became part of a completely different celebration—one centered around family, friends, and a wedding reception. But against the architecture of Capital City Club’s Belvedere, those individual birds became a graceful installation that moved through the space above them and their guests.
This Atlanta wedding demonstrates how the same creative idea can be scaled down, shipped anywhere, and installed locally, making custom origami décor a practical option for weddings, private events, corporate celebrations, and other venues where a full-scale installation isn’t necessary.
For the bride and groom, a visit to Peachtree Road inspired an idea that ultimately took flight at their own wedding.
