NBC Peacocks for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Olympic games are gigantic affairs that take years to coordinate.  In fact, the 2020 Tokyo games were awarded in 2013.  So even though the games are around a year and a half away, promotional work and other behind-the-scenes projects for them has been in full swing for quite some time.  For this project NBC was looking to create a unique experience tied to the culture of Japan that they could share with their advertising clients.  Of course, the obviously place to start was with the iconic NBC peacock logo, so the team shared some easy, medium, and hard versions of the avian logo.

One of the central goals of the event though was for guests to be able to engage with the logo themselves, so after some back and forth about the needs of the event and the goals of NBC, a compromise was reached.  The event itself would be teaching the simple model and then Taro’s Origami Studio would also provide some more complex origami peacocks to show off the wonderful things that the ancient art can achieve.  Taro’s even mocked up some extra special versions of NBC peacocks just for the Olympics, which you can see below.

After many rounds of conversations about how they would go, Taro’s began hosting events across Manhattan for NBC clients.  All told, there were 11 different events teaching people all over how to create their own version of the NBC logo.  Take a look below to see some of the photos from the events taught by the Taro’s Origami Artists.
